Department of Education (DOE)
The commitment to a quality education for all of Hawaii's children began more than 160 years ago, when Hawaii's great monarch, King Kamehameha III, established a statewide public school system. Since that time, we have continued the journey in pursuit of excellence and equity in education. Our standards set the course, while students, families, and community fill the sails with expectation as we voyage with the treasure of bright, young minds ready to lead the way to the future.

To succeed in today’s economy and to prepare for a dynamic and ever-changing future, Hawai‘i’s public high school students are encouraged to earn the Hawai‘i State Board of Education’s Step Up Diploma (starting with the class of 2013 and beyond). Hawaii P-20’s goal is to enroll 75 percent of incoming public school freshmen statewide to pledge to earn this diploma.
